...performance review document.? You overhear two colleagues discussing the new process for completing a performance review document. This process has been confusing and a source of frustration for most folks. You completed that document last week and realized that the colleagues were going about the process differently and that it would be more time consuming if they continue the way they are going about it. You find an opportunity to break into their conversation and share your time saving suggestion with them. One colleague turns to you and says in a curt tone, "Your eavesdropping on a private conversation is unprofessional, but the fact that you would actually interrupt our discussion is just plain rude." This is the third time this week someone has totally misunderstood your words or actions and acted irritated with you.
What perceptions do you have of the situation and the other person that would cause this "knee jerk" response? (What factors are influencing your perception?) What are you focusing on? Provide a rationale and an explanation for your response.)
