I want a very simple phone. I just want it to call and get calls and talk. Nothing else.

Can you please tell me what model phone and what service provider? Thank you.

depends where you live.. but if you are in canada. you can get some pretty decent phones.. that aren't too fancy for quite cheap. i would suggset buy and sell ads and such. cause i'm not sure if you have a contract.. wanting a contract or not. it realy depends.

This is a very open-ended question. The most important factor is does it have service where you need it, ie at home and at work. Cell companies want your business so they ALL have free phones that are basically for chatting (ie my v180). Forget the fufu stuff I'm not into that either (ie camera, web, email, etc). Competition means all the cell providers (ie Cingular and Verizon) cost about the same, service is about the same, voice quality, etc, same. Don't consider the technology either, ie CDMA v. GSM. This is like republican v democrat, cable v satellite, they both have advantages, their both great with voice. Competition means they both are making improvements to outdo the other, expanding service, etc. The 2 factors for me was coverage (Verizon or Cingular) and rollover minutes (Cingular). So Cingular won out for now.

What do you mean? I was just trying to help out. I know there's a lot to cell phones and technology, but most people don't care about the details.

what i meant was.. there is many things to consider.. just adding onto your post.

well you need to know what your needs are. for you it was reception and roll over minutes..

and to this guy.. it may be some functions.. reception again.. and other things.. he has to determine what he needs first.

I live in hawaii and I plan to make calls back and forth with california. Any ideas what phone or service provider would be best?

Between Verizon and Cingular. I like the fact that they own the most (edit) licenses in 850MHz. If your contacts in CA have cell phones maybe go with whatever they have. These 2 are REALLY very similar. Both have coverage in HI. If it were me I'd still go with Cingular because I like the rollover minutes. Get the v180 or any other no frills phone. Motorola phones seem to have the best support.

If you want a very basic phone and have no prior cell service, go to an online place like wirefly.com. With new service and a basic phone, you will actually get money BACK, not just free (one time I saw $100 or so ). Otherwise it makes no difference if you get a black and white display or a camera phone - on Cingular.com they are both free - no money back . In other words, check out wirefly.com. Get the basic phone and use the refund to cover a few month's bills .

I don't mean to sell them but their the only one's I've come across (ah the power of pop-up ads!) and I don't mean to sell Cingular but I did research and went with them for now. Good Luck! (hahaha)
