This is freaking long. But I'm still upset about it and it took over an hour to resolve, so please bear with me.
Before I was going to go to bed (at 3 am) I decided to check my e-mail. I see an e-mail from my bank saying that I was charged an overdraft fee. So of course, I book it over to my bank's site and check my account. I shouldn't have an overdraft because aside from the occational fast food outing, I don't go anywhere or spend any money from my checking because being jobless, I know I can't replace it.
Sure enough, there is a $35 overdraft fee because Dish Network charged me $72.42. Of course, I get upset and call Dish Network and go through the automated system to talk to someone in billing.
I talk to Richard. Richard informs me that he cannot tell me anything about the account because I am not my father and I am not listed on the account. I get even more upset and demand to speak with his supervisor.
After waiting on hold for about 5 minutes, the supervisor comes on the line. He tells me that he can't do anything because I'm not on the account. Can I put the account holder on the line? I tell him, "No. It's 3 am. He works two jobs. I am not waking him up because you won't work with me. It's my card and it never should have been on the account in the first place." He tells me to have my dad call back tomorrow. Well, I know that won't happen. (Since it's hunting season, he'll be in the woods from dawn til dusk with a brief break for lunch.)
At this point, I kind of snap. I tell him, "You know what, I'm going to wake him up. If you won't deal with me, you can deal with him." Yeah, I was being snotty, but it took every fiber of my being not to start cussing him out for stonewalling me. I understand their policy and I understand that it's to protect their customers. However, when I have an overdraft fee, I don't give a fuck about policies.
So, now I wake my dad up. He refuses to talk to the guy. I tell him that he has to (I'm on the brink of tears now) because he has to put me on the account so I can get this figured out. Dad takes the phone and says, "Put her on the account already."
So, now I'm talking to the supervisor again. Here are the charges to my account:
7/7/09- $72.42
8/6/09- $0.24
9/8/09- $0.24
10/7/09- $0.24
11/6/09- $72.42
So, all tolled, they charged me $145.56. The supervisor asks me why I didn't notice these charges earlier and report them. I told him that I don't use that account because I don't have a job and so I have no way to put money into the account. He starts to tell me that he'll refund the charges but not the overdraft. I get upset again and tell him as much. He tries to cut me off and I say, "No. I am talking." He tells me, "I am hanging up and you will not be refunded." And he hangs up.
WTF?! How can you not refund me money that you never should have charged me in the first place?!
So I call back. At this point, my dad grabs the phone and talks to the guy. (Probably a good idea since I am now crying.) He gets it figured out. They will refund me one payment of $72.42. (Because when they charged me that amount in June, my mom didn't send in a check because she didn't realize she didn't recieve a bill.)
So, how did this all get so fucked up? In June, I called and ordered a new clicker for my Dad for Father's day. I made it clear that my card number was not to be added to the account and that it was only supposed to be used for the clicker. (On my bank statement, it says "One time only charge".) Somehow, my debit card was added to the account as the primary direct pay account. So, my mom was sending in checks and they were charging me each month. (The months I was charged $0.24 were months that I didn't have enough in my account (apparently) to cover the bill, but Mom's check came. So I was only charged 24 cents.)
Dad was able to get 90 days of free movie channels since they couldn't refund the overdraft fee. But, now I have to go to the bank later today to see if they can't reverse the overdraft since it was a company that charged me wrongly and the account will be refunded within 5 business days.
The guy Dad talked to appologized for his supervisor (he read the conversation back to my dad) several times. But a lot of fucking good a sorry does me. I appreciate it, but it would have meant more from the fucker of a supervisor.
I fucking HATE Dish Network.
Short version:
In June, I got my dad a clicker from dish network. They added my debit card number to the account for auto pay when they were not authorized to. Since June, they have been trying to charge me for the bill, but were only successful twice for a total of $145.56. An all out war errupted between Dish Network and myself because of the charges and a subsequent overdraft charge and my Dad had to call them back to have it refunded. We now have Starz and some other movie channels for 90 days. They will not refund my overdraft fee. I have to go to the bank and beg them to remove the fee. I will only be refunded $72.42 from Dish Network (but my parents have said that they will cover the rest.)
