Great films - and superb discs from Warner.
I can't believe you were able to hold off this long before buying those classics.

If thats your price level , and you can play R1 check out the Midnite Movies label .

US based Amazon Marketplace sellers on Amazon UK (so still only

Has anyone gone out and bought a dvd of a film that they have not seen before, thought it was fantastic and wish they bought the blu-ray version instead?

I bought the dvd of 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' because it was on sale. As l enjoyed it so much, l am thinking of purchasing the blu-ray as well!

Has anyone been in the same situation? Did you go on and purchase the blu-ray version soon after getting the dvd?

Not buying, since starting my blu ray collection, I think about it now before buying(some films I don't mind seeing on dvd). But renting, I wish I could have rented some films on blu ray but some come on dvd only.

The UK Hammer boxset (I assume you mean the 21 discer) is great but only features the movies owned by Canal+.
The Universal and Columbia movies are very under represented in the UK .

Universal licenced out Brides of Dracula and Evil of Frankenstein but they cost more together than the 8 film set that includes them in the US.

I don't buy anything other than blu ray now, I mean I have the kit to appreciate them so i don't see why not. I will however only buy something I have seen and I have watershed of around

I would like to fill in the Hammer Dracula blanks really.

So...

Horror of Dracula
Brides Of Dracula
The Satanic Rites of Dracula

I have the rest.

Pan's Labyrinth.

Ok it was a present so might get round to buying it on bluray myself anyway, though I'm really loathe to do this for films I already have on DVD.

Well, no. Going from the old analogue formats to digital was a huge improvement. Going from a good, digital, upscaled DVD to a poor Blu-Ray is hardly any improvement at all.

I just bought Resident Evil: Extinction for

If there's an option between Blu Ray version and DVD version then it's Blu Ray all the time for films.
I don't see the point in buying a Blu Ray player to get the best experience out of films to then go and buy films on DVD.
I will only ever buy DVD if what I want will probably never be available on Blu Ray.

All 3 have been released although you need to buy from the US to get Satanic Rites .
It does get screened over here but is still subject to the censor cut from the BBFC

Was I ?
You won't find those films any cheaper than the prices I paid

Buy some decent equipment to watch them on.

Upscaled dvd's look no better than they used to viewed on a crt.
The idea that upscaled dvd's look better than they have ever done before - or that they are are "nearly hd" is absolute rubbish

They are always better than the dvd.

If there is a Bluray option I never buy the dvd .
If something is good enough to buy whats the point in buying the inferior version?
