Yeah, I'm probably the last person in the world to get one - but what one?

Here's my scneario, my job changed and I'm going to be on the road (60% BC (Lower Mainland), 20% Edmonton, 20% Saskatoon) and work will provide me with a cell phone and a $100/month allowance. I'll be based in Burnaby, BC. I'd imagine I can spend a few hundred on a phone too...

I figure I'll be using ~1,000-1200 minutes/month during business hours calling around Canada, split 50/50 to incoming and outgoing.

I never text message, never surf the web on a phone - all I do is make & receive calls. I do want a decent camera and good handfree capabilities - whatever that entails. Is VM standard with all plans nowadays?

I don't care about ring tones, wallpaper, phone prettyness......I think you get the drift. I just want a good small phone with good camera shots.

I don't have a clue who to signup with, what phone to get....

I don't want to look like a Star Trek character though so I'd like a decent handsfree setup IF possible - if not than I guess I have to be Mr. Data.

Can anyone throw me some ideas? I'll do the searching/research , but I don't know where to start (and I don't trust salesmen in kiosks) so I came here thx to a friends suggestion.

I've read alot of bad stuff about Bell though so far on here....should I rule them out?

You probably should tell us what carrier you will be using as that will help recommend a phone. Just remember to check coverage maps of all the areas where you will be using the phone. I am not that familiar wit those areas of Canada, so I can't make a good recommendation.

I get to choose whoever I want for the carrier, thats my problem - Quite a few of the others at my work use Bell but after reading all the negatives about them, I'm not so sure now...

Doesn't make any difference what everyone else says. You need to find a carrier that works. If its only Bell, then you need to go that way. Just don't assume that every carrier will have coverage where you will use the phone. No matter if the carrier gets all 10s for CS, if it doesn't work, it doesn't matter because you have no service.Being a business phone, the connection is what is important.

The negatives may not really be all that bad either. Depends on the issue and the person. Could be just a rant when they think they were done wrong. For example, many people bash Cingular, but I have never had a problem that couldn't be resolved.

If you will be making any calls after 9PM, or on Weekends Rogers might end up being the cheapest.
