Yasmin Advice Please...

Okay, this is my first time posting on HealtrabroadoarRAB, but I have read most of the threaRAB on Yasmin. I started taking Yasmin in Deceraber to help with my mild acne. Almost immediately, I was breaking out worse than ever...I mean definitely worse than my normal acne. Especially in places that I never breakout (like forehead, hairline, nose, etc.) But I really wanted to stick it out because of everything that I have read about the initial breakout, give it at least 3-4months, etc. And the weird thing is that my skin clears up perfectly on the placebo pills, then starts to break out again alsmot the exact day I start that active pills. Very frustrating!
So, I just started my 4th month this past week. And like clockwork, my skin started breaking out on the active pills.
I just do not know what to do. Should I give it 6 months? Or is this a sign that Yasmin will NOT work for me.
I know it takes a while for the pills to adjust, but I am starting to get discouraged. I am thinking of switching to Desogen. Any advice would be great, especially if someone has had a similiar experience.

I started Yasmin about 9 days ago mainly to help with my hormonal acne.. My acne seems to get bad with a couple cysts before my period, but after my period it always gets better. Well I started Yasmin on the first day of my period and its over now, an I'm breaking out worse than I have in long while.. Is it the "initial" breakout?? How long might this last if It is.. ?? I really need some advice.. I just wanna hide from the world right now...lol

Yea I have lost weight too instead of gain which is a plus.. But I just wanted to know does the Breakout last for 3 months or does it go away ?

hi...my situation is like yours... a week before the white pills my face starts to calm down and during the white pills i dont get any new breakouts, and i feel good about my skin... but for the 2 weeks after the white pills i get breakouts again!...

im on my 6th month with yasmin, ive stuck through it because i keep thinking it will get better, and i still dont know if i want to keep on it because it seems like i always breakout during the first two weeks and it gets me really down.... but i guess i stay on it because 1) i think more time MIGHT be what i need...and 2) when im on the white pills and a week before i really like my skin.... so i dont know what to do....i think im going to stay on them until my next doctor visit (about 4 more months) and see from there...i was thinking about going on a tri phasic birth control....??

and another thing...before i was on yasmin i would break out a week before my period and the week of my period...so it basically just switched it around which is weird i guess...

My breakouts lasted for about 3 months..then it seemed to start going away after that. You face should start clearing up soon.

yasmin is a wonderful pill! it started clearing me up after about 5-6 months! please stay on it up till then!! it has really really helped me! now im only working on red/brown marks! goodluck gurls!!! :-)

This is so weird. This is EXACTLY what i'm going thru right now. i just startd yasmin and am on my second week. my face exploded and it's the worst it's been in a long time. i'm wondering if this is an indication that yasmin won't work for me?? don't know if my skin will clear up after this "initial" phase or if i should just switch to a different pill!! right now i just wish i never started it... i'm going to give it a couple of months, just to see what happens. but, i feel your pain!! anyone else experience this and what was the final result??? help!

Hi surenitynow, I've read a lot of your posts and hope that the Yasmin gets better for you. But I just can't take it anymore. Today, my whole forhead was broken out and I NEVER break out on my forhead. There are just bumps everywhere, under my skin on my cheeks and chin. I just do not think the Yasmin is good for me.
I called my doctor and she said I should start the desogen next month. Actually, it's called orthocept...same as desogen. So, I need to get thru the next two weeks on Yasmin and then I am switching. If you want, I could keep you updated.
I've tried Ortho-tricyclen in the past and it caused problems for my skin too, so I really hope the orthocept at the very least does not make my acne worse.

that would be great if you kept us updated when you switch, i would really want to know how it works for you, because it might be something i would switch over to also...thaNKS!

My daughter just started her 3rd month on Yasmin and her skin looks better than it has in about 2 years! I say stick it out 1 or 2 moe months.

Hey there, my advice is to stick with it. I went through the exact same thing, my face got worse when I first started it. I don't know about y'all, but it also made me nauseous to the point of throwing up. Gross. Anyways, My acne is greatly improved since getting on Yasmin (i'm also taking Spiro though). However I think its the Yasmin that is helping. I've been on it for about 4 months and it wasn't untill recently that my face started to clear up. I still get a pimple or two around my period, but nothing like how it used to be. So you have to be patient, and I know Yasmin isn't for everyone, but I think all BC pills have an adjustment period which is what y'all are going through. I say if you don't see improvement within 4 months, then you should probably switch. It sucks I know, but its worth it. Now all I have to do is figure a way to get rid of these red marks and stupid scars...which I'm starting to believe is worse than the acne itself! Hope this helped.

Well Unfortunately, I am experiencing some mild depression and anxiety and I have had a past with panic attacks and severe anxiety.. So I do not think i wanna stay on this pill.. I know it effects women differently but I rather try something else then feel like this. I have one question though, I have only been on it for 10 days.. What would happen if i just stopped cold turkey?? Would it mess my hormones up and when will I feel like halfway normal again???

Great..at least I'm not the only one but I Know for a fact that my face would be halfway presentable by now so I know it has to be the Yasmin. I just am wandering how long this unfortunate breakout will last.. cuz I got to do things and it so hard to go out in the world with a huge breakout .. But I am going to give it some time and see what happens.. I also felt nauseous the first couple days..... which was not pleasant. I just hope this helps my face instead of ruins it lol

I feel your pain also. I just started Yasmin about 3 months ago. And I also went through the "initial" breakout stage. I think it's starting to get better, but I'm still having problems adjusting to it. The good thing is that I've also lost weight taking Yasmin. Which is one reason I decided to stick with it, instead of switch.

I just do not think I can stick it out with the Yasmin. Last week was really bad and then I got a HUGE cyst! I do not really get cyts anymore as I was on accutane a few years back, so the Yasmin is definitely not working with my system. I forgot to mention in my previous posts that since I started the Yamsin my skin has been crazy oily. I have never really had a problem with oil and would actually consider my skin dry. I have always needed to use mosturizer after I cleanse because my skin gets so tight. Not on the Yamsin! My skin is SO oily I can actually see the oil on my nose, forehead, etc.
So, I think I am going to switch to Orthocept next month. For anyone who is reading this, my thought process is this: While Yamsin has worked great for some, it has also caused others to have very bad breakouts. I think some people-like me-just have a bad reaction to the drospirone (sp?) that is the progestin in the pill. I've done a lot of reasearch on birth control and acne and it seems the least androgenic progestin is desogestral (sp?). Although Yamsin is even better than desogestral for some, it may be worse for others. So, desogestral seems like the next logical step for me. Also, it doesn't seem to have an initial breakout (we'll see about that...) or at least make acne worse.
But you don't know until you try. So I will post my updates.

One more thing... for anyone who is thinking I trying Yasmin don't be discouraged by my experience because it has worked fantastic for some!

Hi. My case is very similar to yours. I started Yasmin a couple weeks ago and it's making me break out on my forehead and cheeks. I am very interested in knowing if you did switch to desogen/orthocept and if so, did it help you at all? Please let me know how you are doing. Thanks so much!
