After watching Philly blow Game 4 of the world series to the yankees my friend and I were talking about Charlie Manuel's (Philly's manager) decesion not to pitch ace Cliff Lee on 3 days rest (I know Lidge is the one who blew the game but Blanton gave up 4 runs in 6) and how the Yankees are gonna win because they didn't pitch Lee
He joked he didn't because the Series is fixed and we came with this whole conspracy:
That baseball needs the Yankees to win and Philly to lose because all the bandwagon fans would be rooting for the Yankees and would buy Yankees stuff if the Yankees win but if Philly won they wouldn't need to buy Phillies gear cuz they already own Phillies stuff from last year
I also noticed the same could apply to hockey with the Wings and Pens in the SCF last year
My questions:
1. In which scenario is a fix more likely
2. Where does this rank in terms of stupid conspiracy theories?
3. For baseball fans do you agree with starting Blanton. I know the numbers aren't great with pitchers starting on 3 days rest but you gotta ride your ace IMO. Plus then you can go with Lee in a Game 7 over the inconsistent Cole Hamels. Even when the Sox won 2yrs ago I thought it was a bad move by Francona pitching Lester in Game 4 over Josh Beckett (Who was pitching better than Lee IMO)
