Yahoo Chat & Mobile Text - Invisible status is useless?

Everytime I log onto my Yahoo email, I immediately get 4-7 SPIM (SPAM+Instant Message) messages. My Chat & Mobile Text status is INVISIBLE! If my friends can't see me, why can the spammers still SPAM me? It's very time consuming and apparently does not a bit of good to block their names and report their abuse to Yahoo. Any ideas?
