Yahoo chat in Yahoo mail does NOT stay logged out and always starts?

I want to permanently stop that stupid Yahoo chat from starting in Yahoo mail. I do 'log out' but it always wants to start up again and then I get hit with a pop up window with all these chat request. I do not want to chat with anyone. Some of us people like to keep our social lives just that, social and not in or on the web, Yahoo has just screwed people out of not giving a OPT OUT of the chat feature in Yahoo mail. I got one in Gmail to NOT use Buzz or Gchat down at the bottom of the screen. So why not in Yahoo?
