Constantly sick

I am sampling Xyzal and it seems to be the only thing that works. However, I have started having random hives all over my body and I am extremely tired/groggy during the day and wired for sound at night.
How have you coped with this? Any suggestions on what works for you and Xyzal?

When are you taking it? If in the AM and it's making you drowsy, then switch to taking it at night. As for the hives, that's common with xyzal and zyrtec. i doubt anything can be done other than maybe adding a benedryl but that would really know you out.

Taking it in the evening right before bed. I think I am just going to have to do another trial month of 3 other types. The three my allergist had me try either gave me a horrible headache all the time or made me incredibly tired. So far I have tried Patanase, Clarinex (both gave me headaches) and Xyzal. I was previously on Astelin but I was having to take Zyrtec and Singulair as well and still wasn't getting relief.

I itch if Xyzal doesn't protect me all the way when I encounter something I'm allergic to. Fortunatly it's not constant. Itching, except for skin allergies, was never a problem for me until I started Xyzal. Be careful when you stop taking it...you might get a serious case of the itches. I had to stop it for a week for allergy testing and it was awful! Be forewarned. You allergist will not tell you about the itches. Supplement with 50mg of Benadryl. Works like a charm, but may knock you out. Xyzal puts me out if I take it without food...take it with food at night and it's not nearly as bad. Try another antihistamine. None of the other ones work as well for me, so I deal with the stupid Xyzal itching.

Good Luck!

Have you tried Claritin or Allegra? You don't mention them but maybe you tried them a long time ago.

Yes. I tried Allegra in Apr-09 and it helped maybe 50% and Clariton a few months before that and it didn't help much, either.

My doctor gave me some samples of XYZAL yesterday - I have been having continuous ringing in my ears for about 4 weeks. He said it could be allergies - I do have some stuffiness and coughing - so he wants me to try this - I am so bad with medicine! I didn't start it last night - but thought I would tonight - I may even take half of the pill tonight! Would this maybe help this ringing?
