I just bought a new skullcandy xbox 360 headset. I can hear the stuff that would normally come out through my tvs speakers, my friends can hear me talking, but i cant hear my friends talking. Does anyone know what is wrong?

It is set to play through headset. I set it to play through speakers and I can hear my friends talking through both the speakers and my headset but i dont want it to play through the speakers.
