xbox 360 question on the 3 red rings of death ?

i have a question my mom is getting money soon and i'll get a xbox 360 but is it worth it. I say this because what if I do get it how should I take care of it so the 3 rings of death don't happen ever also when I called gamestop a women told me that the new 360 models are less likely to get the 3 rings of death so does this make it 94% also what if it does break and I get it repaired does microsoft fix the problem permanetly if not. then what tools do I need to fix it permanetly my self.
 
you can't fix it yourself just get a ps3 much better system IMO and i own a 360 well I have had 3 red ring each time >>
