xbox 360 problem?? ring of death?

I just got an xbox 360 not even a month ago. today as i was playing a game, the screen shut off and the ring around the power button turned red with three flashing lights. i have heard of something called the ring of death? what exactly is this and what should i do about it? i managed to turn the xbox 360 on again but i dont think this should be happening, especially since it is brand new! please let me know- thanks!
also i have the game call of duty 4, it has a circle scratch on it and is not able to play some levels. i have heard that some xbox 360s have done this to discs....i no for sure we did not scratch it- the game is brand new and the scratch is a perfect cirlce!
 
its hardware failure.
if it keeps happening Call Microsoft and tell them you have the Red Ring Of Death,and they'll send you a Box.

heres a Tip,when on the Phone try and Sound Mean,they give you free Stuff.
also, there not gonna give you the Same Console they'll give you a Refurbish one.
 
mine did the same thing 2.................all i did was push the wires in the back of it and made sure they were in and turn the system back on and it hasnt given me any problems since
