Xbox 360 - 3 Red Lights?

I have the 3 red lights on my xbox 360, my warranty has ran out because i have had the xbox for 2 years now. so is there anything i can do to try and fix this before i have to send it away and pay for it.
Also, i play on it for say 2 hours. Turn it off, 30 mins later I turn it on, i get the red lights, then i try it a few times, such as taking the cables out and plugging them back in again, still doesnt work! But then 10 mins later i go and turn it on and it works fine, why does it do this?

yea there is two things you can do one sell it or two put in your room and cherish it unless you a computer programmer there is little that you can do....but one thing i can suggest is try to reformat the hard drive...you have to search for that cuz its a lot of explaining i have to do..
 
fist your xobx is on the verge of dying second dont tuch it if you open it up thay may not fix it you may be coverd under a three year warranty if you get the red rings of death
