Xanax and Lexapro

I am new here and wanted to know about switching from Xanax to Lexapro. I have had anxiety for over 10 years and the past few months it has gotten really bad and last week it got so bad I couldn't go to work or do anything. My dr prescribed me Xanax. It has helped a bit, but I still have the depression, and anxiety thoughts just as bad as before. I go back to the dr today and want to ask about going on Lexapro because I have heard from numerous people that it has helped them greatly. But, my question is, while I am waiting for the Lexapro to start working can I still take a minimal dose of Xanax to help with the attacks? Thanks for any advise you have for me... worrying about this doesn't help with my anxiety as you all know....:(
 
Your post is almost exactly like mine. Started lexApro on Saturday night and have been taking Xanax half the pill about 3 times a day. Today anxiety is higher. Gonna take another Xanax. My step daughter is coming tomorrow for her first holiday with us and I dont want her to see me freak out! Anyway I spoke to therapist yesterday who said to take the Xanax until the lexApro kicks in.Ugh
