I will be having this surgery in 2 1/2 weeks and just found this site. I am not sure what the surgery will involve but the metal appliance from 2007 will have to be removed. The bone for the fusion will be taken from the hip. I am 65 yrs old and concerned about how fast I can get back to my sewing machine, computer and everything thing else which requires a lot of sitting. My doc says 6 weeks for driving. Is that the normal for this surgery if all goes well. The X-stop was a breeze but it did absolutely nothing from the first day....I regret not doing the full fusion 3 years ago. Thanks for any help. I am beginning to get nervous as the time gets closer.

Hi, sewlady, and welcome to the forum. Yes, most doctors will not allow you to drive for at least 6 weeks. Your sitting time, at first, will be limited to 15 minutes and gradually increased. Each doctor has his own rules and it is best to follow them to a T.

I'm going to be having surgery sometime next month (7th lurabar surgery) as I have bone spurs and a bulging disc compressing nerves. I guess you kind of get used to it, because I'm not nervous. Probably will be the night before and on thru until I am asleep, lol. Everyone is nervous about surgery so don't feel bad, it's perfectly normal.

I had heard of the X-stop and was interested in it myself a few years ago and then I started reading about how it wasn't helping the way it was hoped it would. I'm sorry it didn't work for you, either.

Please stay in touch, will you? I'd like to know how you are doing.

Thank you for your quick response....I feel better already hearing from at least one person the first day. I can not tell from the posts that I have read if you have to lie on bed almost all of the time or can you be in a reciner after a week. There is no TV in the guest room at my daughters but we can get a cable box installed if I will be in that room long enough to make it work while. Can someone help me with this. Thanks, Diane
