...addition of a sample of s? The mass of a clean, dry crucible was 10.443 g.
The mass of the crucible after the addition of a sample of shiny copper (Cu) wire was 11.229 g.
The wire was then covered with yellow powdered elemental sulfur (S8).
The crucible was heated until all the Cu reacted with S8 and the excess S8 was burned off. After cooling, the crucible plus black reaction product weighed 11.432 g.
With the observation above, determine the empirical formula for the reaction product Cux Sy. Show your workings in order for the students to understand the method of determination of the empirical formula.
