I have a tetra I've had for awhile now and all of a sudden he is all bloated like a balloon I noticed this last nite he is swimming upside down and swimming near the top of the water. I thought for sure this morning he'd be dead but nope it's freaking me out anyone know what might be going on with it.

He's dead now R.I.P

Sounds like swim bladder. Since he probably has not eaten in a couple of days, try to offer a shelled pea. If he doesn't eat, try again tomorrow. I hate to say it, but it sounds like a pretty bad case, but just keep trying. Make things as stress free as possible for him.=

Sounds like some kind of internal bacterial, or even parasitic disorder, which has possibly led to dropsy (which is a symptom and not a disease itself). To be honest I would say this fish is too far gone and the kindest thing would be to put it out of its misery.

either a swimbladder issue or maybe more likely dropsy.

dropsy makes his scales stick up like a pine cone. there are treatments for this, but they don't typically work.

probably swim bladder you can get meds dont know the name of them sorry thats the best i can i can offer you

I don't want to upset you..

But this probably will so stop from this point on if you don't want to be.
But thats what happened to my fish too he stayed like that for the whole day & then he was dead.

I'm really sorry.

:(

not sure what you call it or what causes it but, it's air bladder is bloated... don't know what you do to take care of it but it will "fish out" like a violent thrashing and die

sorry
