WRITING--What weapons would suit my characters?

I've had a book idea in my head for about a year, and I've recently sat down to start putting the ideas for it onto paper, creating my character bios, scenery descriptions, and time line. There are quite a few things I know I need to research before I can write about them. But one question I'd like to ask, and I'm not quite sure who would be the best source of advice, is what kind of weapons would suit each of my individual characters. I don't know a lot about guns, but the fact is they'll be all throughout the majority of my book. But even researching how each weapon works and such won't exactly give me a solid idea of weapon style/personality trait matches.

I imagine Ashley to be a bit hot-headed, strong-willed, opinionated, independent, stubborn to a fault, but mostly keeps to herself, is a tad bit emotional, internally, and does what needs to be done. She's kind of the leader, and her ambitions are high (mostly political/leadership ambitions) I kind of imagine her with a shotgun on her back, and is a rather kick-butt character for me. A Lara Croft of sorts, but with a lot more internal emotion and conflict.

Stanley's kind of the quiet, strong type who's dream coincides with Ashley's. While she wants to be a leader, he wants to be her pillar of strength, her right-hand-man--the guy with the strategy and plan--and help lead their survivor colony. He's got both brains and brawn, but is a more reserved, sensitive, and malleable character. Certainly not as stubborn, and kind of wants to be the world's Atlas. Not sure what kind of weapon I see him with.

Lillith I initially see with a compound bow. At first she's very disoriented, as she's tossed from a calm environment to a very chaotic and disastrous one, but her personality is more like mine than any of my other characters, and so her preference I suppose stems from mine (though she isn't me--she just has a few more traits in common with me than the rest). I love archery. xD She's kind of dual-natured. She can be stubborn to all heck, emotional, rational and logical, cynical and optimistic, witty, fickle, talkative, expressive, restless, adaptable, curious, and somewhat moody. Though with that description, I'm not sure anyone would want to give her a weapon to begin with xDD

The rest of my characters I'm not too worried about at the moment--they're not as major as these three, and once I figure out their personalities a little better, I can go back and change their preferred/suitable weapon(s).

I know it probably sounds like a strange request, but I want to work out as many kinks/small details now so I can pay better attention to the bigger stuff once I start writing for the plot. You can't have a character-driven plot if you don't know your own characters xD Haha

Any help would be appreciated. : )
