One of the topic choices available for essays on the common app is to write about a significant experience in your life and the impact it has had on you. My mother died of breast cancer when I was younger and I was thinking of doing my essay about her death and how it has led me to become a stronger person while influencing what I want to do with my life (work with a foundation for breast cancer and help others like her). However, I was wondering if this would be a good essay topic or if colleges get sick of reading about dead relatives. I know many people write their essays about the impact of a grandparent's death on their lives, but since this would be about my mother I wanted to know if it would be an okay idea. Please give me feedback on this essay topic! Thanks.
