The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Academy Day Care, 3611 E. 27th Street. According to early reports, three children were critically injured. Two reportedly were trapped under a vehicle.
A silver car and a black Range Rover hit the front of building, which is on the east side of Askew Avenue at 27th Street. A damaged power pole was tilting at a 45-degree angle in front of the building.
Firefighters could be seen carrying wooden 2 by 4s into the building.
Approximately 40 children were inside the day care. Three children have been taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital, said Capt. Tye Grant, a police spokesman. Their conditions were unknown. The driver of the Range Rover also has been taken to a hospital. Apparently the Range Rover collided with a Cadillac, which was shoved into the building.
