Wound/stitches question?

Yesterday I had something cut out at the Doctors, she put 3 stitches in it and covered it with a waterproof dressing. She said it would come off in a couple of days then to put a new one on and by the weekend it would be fine to leave it uncovered, but I have to keep it dry for now.

Last night I noticed the dressing was pretty full of blood, I can't see it myself apart from in the mirror so this morning I showed my mother who agreed it was soaked. I tried ringing the doctor and only got to talk to the nurse who said it wouldn't hurt to change the dressing.

I thought I would do so after my shower, this way if the dressing isn't so waterproof it would last an extra day.

I noticed when I went for a shower it was so much more soaked with blood then last night and had in fact bleed through and I had blood on me. So I had a shower and dried myself avoiding that area. I then noticed it looked as though air has got underneath the dressing so I went and got the spare and had another look and it was half hanging off.

I somewhat managed to take it off and pat it down with a tissue and put the new dressing on but I'm worried that it got went in the shower.

What should I be doing? Is there a big problem with it getting wet? It was about 25hrs after the procedure.

Getting it wet isn't that serious. The fact that it's "soaked" with blood would be more of a concern - perhaps you need more than 3 stitches to fully close the wound.
