Would you want genetically modified foods to be labeled as GM foods, or you don't

care? ?
According to a survey of the Food Policy Institute (FPI), fewer than half (48%) of Americans realized that GM foods were on the market, despite the prevalence of these foods on supermarket shelves. And a whopping 87% of Americans would not score a passing grade in understanding the science behind GM technology.
In 2006, countries that grew 97% of the global transgenic crops were the United States (53%).
The author of research about such modified food products does such sad predictions:"..our Government decided to intentionally never let us know, whether any particular tomato is actually natural or genetically-modified. Actually, it has turned out to be very easy to tell! Essentially ALL tomatoes we can buy today are extremely bright red, with rarely any imperfection, and NONE of them have much taste at all! I regularly ask friends to close their eyes, and then put a piece of a tomato in their mouth, for them to identify it. Few can!
Twenty years ago, 100% of people would have instantly recognized the taste of a tomato. It just means there is more genetic modification that they still will do yet.

Like it or not, that ship has sailed in the U.S. We eat genetically modified food every day. It is not surprising that the public is ill informed about their food supply. We are pretty much un-informed about everything.

I'm not totally against genetic modification in all cases. For example, should rice produce B vitamins? Why not?
In any case, I do want to know if they have been modified, and I also want to know exactly which country my food came from. We need stronger COOL (country of origin labeling.)

I think it's a good idea to label them and educate the public about GM foods.

Yes I would want them labeled as such. The food industry already gets away with so much as it is with foods having less nutrition and more added sugar, salts and crap, the *last thing* I want to trust these folks with are the *genomes* of our food supply.

I think it would just make life simpler. This way you know, in a straight-forward fashion, *what to avoid* if you're allergic, dieting, and/or religious. With unrestrained and unlabeled Genetically Modified foods, you really are asking for certain common allergens--like peanuts--to be *bred into everything*. Among other train wrecks waiting to happen.

It wouldn't have to be anything scary either...just a simple label, stating "This product may contain the following recombinant foods: Milk, Eggs, Soy. These foods may or may not contain DNA extracted from: Wheat, Krill, Walnuts," Just as an example. Keep it simple, direct, non-technical and non-confrontational.

Is it so hard? Would it reveal so much? ^__^ Seriously. Are the big Food Companies so scared that people selling *Real Food*, and not "food products", would run them out of business?

Boo hoo. Poor babies. How many *billions* have these people made just by making the food supply *rancid* with High Fructose Corn Syrup? Ok then. ^_^

Label the stuff. Do what's needed to avoid lawsuits. It's not that hard to either use the label or--heaven forbid--just stick to *real natural food* in the first place.

Just my two cents.
