SURREY, B.C. - Police say a British Columbia teen killed earlier this week was shot by an alleged vigilante after a group of friends got drunk and slashed some tires.
RCMP said 20-year-old Steven Mulligan-Brum has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Aden Aliu in Surrey, B.C.
"A vehicle that was associated to our suspect was damaged and that's what we're alleging sparked his desire to go after these young individuals," Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Friday.
He said Mulligan-Brum is known to police, but that the suspect and the victim did not know each other.
Carr said Aliu was with a group of other youths throughout the early morning hours Wednesday and that they'd slashed the tires on a number of vehicles.
Police allege the suspect came out to the street to confront the teens, caught up to them after about two blocks and fired a gun.
