Yes, I believe that is an accurate description. Her music is quite unconventional and experimental for pop music, and her style of visuals and performance (dance, fashion, etc) are quite avant-garde, in the artistic sense. I would even say that she might be the John Coltrane of the 2000s...she's pretty much up there with great avant garde artists such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Steve Reich, Henri Matisse...
