Would you recommend the HTC hero?

Hey there,

I'm gonna buy a HTC hero, its free on the £25 a month contract from 3. Is this phone any good? Just give me your opinion............

If I get it from 3, will it have the ugly 3 logo printed on it, eg will it be branded to 3, or will it come in the original HTC box etc. as if you were to buy it SIM free?

Also, I don't currently have a phone or an iPod. If I got a HTC hero, would I need an iPod nano too, or is the HTC hero good enough to act as an iPod and a phone?

The music playing ability of the Hero is great. There are a lot of different "players" you can download to use in place of the default music application. My personal favorite is TuneWiki (free) which can go out to the internet and get they lyrics of the song being played (Unless it's a pretty obscure song.)

You can also, of course, use the phone to listen to streaming music from services like Slacker Radio, Pandora etc. - Although with the strange music company crap they pull all the time on licensing, I don't know if either of those are available in Europe, but I also know there is a service in Europe like those two that is not available in the U.S. I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of it at the moment, but you shouldn't have any problems finding it. :)

As to the logo, that I don't have a clue about.

The Hero, especially the Euro GSM model you will be getting, is extremely customizable if you wish to root the phone. There are way more custom ROM's available for the European Hero than the U.S. CDMA version. You should be extremely happy with the phone.
