Hi everyone! Thanks in advance for trying to help!
I'm planning a trip to NZ mid Feb through March. I haven't bought the tickets yet because I can't seem to find "the best deal."
Is it best to fly into Auckland (since a flight to Christchurch requires I land in Auckland anyway), back pack around the north island, cross to the south via ferry, spend 2/3 of my time there in the south, and then make the trip back up to the airport (or maybe try to fly out of CHC)? What treks would you recommend?
I've got friends/distant associations/host families I can visit and stay with along the way, my lightweight camping gear for nights without, and a little ($) bit of money for hostels.
I'm trying to figure out how to link up the trails and figure out if I'm going to need to rent a car. I'd love to hear about what you did and see if I can't mold your ideas into one big awesome nature/adventure/culture trip!
