Would you recommend an SV650s for a first bike?

I'm 19 and I've been wanting to get a bike for a while now, it's mostly just a matter of money, and after reading a bunch of stuff I'm pretty much set on an SV. I'm just looking for the opinions of some more knowledgeable people. Also, what would you consider a good price for a good condition 2003 or later (want that fuel injection). Finally, are there any tips on keeping my parents from murdering me when I ride it home after having had it for a few months in college. (This probably wont be until next fall after I've made some more cash over the summer). I've already talked to them and they're totally against it right now. Thanks.
I plan on using it daily to commute to class, and wherever else, as well as the 120 miles back home every 3 to 6 weeks.

YES

perfect first bike, perfect commuter bike, the only minor thing I don't like on the Suzuki SV650 is the engine noise after the engine breaks in. The engine has that rattling noise similar to Ducati's

Brilliant choice, you really cannot go wrong with one. It will happily commute, tour and pootle about without complaint. The suspension is a little soft for hard riding but just about perfect for any other type of ride. Personally I'd sooner have comfortable suspension for commuting/touring 90% of my riding is such.

Get one, you really won't be disappointed.

Brilliant choice lovely bike we had the 1000 i loved it thought it was very smart looking too and easy to ride . not sure how much you would get one for would say about between two and a half up to 3 thousand not much more though

I highly recommend SV650's as first bikes. They are great for starters. You can also consider the CBR F4 or F4i and Ninja 250. Ninja 250 will be more affordable and you can save up while riding it to get a better bike. A good price for the SV650 would be around $3500-$4500. I like the way naked ones look.
