Would you recommend an iPad 4?

I am thinking of buying an iPad 4. Am I able to work on my book on a iPad 4? I am tired of lugging my laptop with my everywhere and was curious if an iPad 4 has any word documents. Should I just stick to using my laptop? I cant bring it everywhere, so I usually end up using paper and pen which is a pain.
