In the rare event you haven't heard yet, mini puts out a diesel that gets over 70 mpg.
Here is the link.

The vehicle is currently not being released in the states because we don't have an adequate supply of low sulfur diesel. Meanwhile GM has put all their eggs in their volt. Their electric car can go 40 miles on a charge before switching over to the gas powered generator. Cool idea. So if you could have one of these cars today, what would you choose and why?

Personally, I would go for the mini. The mini has plenty of space. It's sportier , and diesels have been tried and tested. Not to mention the overall fuel efficiency would be greater on the mini. I just don't understand what the big deal about hybrids and ev's is when there are vehicles that can get 70+mpg.

The US has more low sulphur diesel generation capacity than europe, you assumed that the US was behind, here is the quote from the link you missed "BMW plans to offer the Cooper diesel in the United States when the emissions system is robust enough to allow the car to be sold in all 50 states. The company declines to say when that might happen."

The US has stricter emission rules than the EU for diesels, that's the issue.

Other than that, The volt is only a city commuter, not for hi way use, The Mini will be cheaper to operate.

Thanks!
