My teacher is a harda*s when it comes to essays and I want to make sure I do well. If your familiar with the AP Essay Scoring, please help. I'm just looking for some opinions.
The prompt is: Analyze why the English colonies grew into regions with distinct social and economic differences.
And yes it is long, it is about 2 and half pages, lol. But I need someone to help, I don't want to get a 4 on this essay like I did on the last one -_-
Also I can't seem to dent the paragraphs, so I just separated them.

The geographic distance between England and the colonies and each other led to the distinct social and economical systems of the varying regions. The fact that the power of the king and parliament could only extend so far was a big advantage for the colonies. This distance allowed each colony to form a social and economical system in accordance to their own needs and beliefs. Distance between the colonies and each other was another factor. With the lack of contact with other colonies, each of the colonist’s economical and social systems becomes more distinct from each other. Along with distance immigration, their environment, and sex-ratio are also factors in shaping these distinct differences.
Immigration played a big role in creating social differences, as well as economical ones. The immigration of the Scots-Irish, Dutch, and other immigrants from Europe were one factor in the growing population of New England. The constant migration of new people helped diversify the English colonies. Not only did the immigrants bring along with them themselves and their families, they also brought along with them their culture and ideology. Each new colonial member brought with some element to add to the colonies. An example of this would be the Scots-Irish who became a significant influence in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, they helped established a new religion that became important in the colonies, Presbyterianism. In the South you have the forced immigration of Africans for the use of slavery, for the plantations. The African Slaves did work that most of the white settlers would refuse to do. It was the slaves that enabled plantations to prosper.
Their environment also played a pretty big role. Down in the South the soil was fertile, perfect to start an agricultural based society. Plantations were the biggest source of prosperity for the southern colonies. The middle colonies had some luck with farming, but the South prospered the most. The continuously growing population also had an effect on physical geographical environment. As the colonial population began to grow at a faster rate, the once untamed land soon fell to hands of the colonies, which shaped the environment differently. Also the vast amount of land made owning land not as desirable as it is in England, who had very few land available. This unavailability of land was the reason for the foundation of England’s economy. The abundant amount of land caused Aristocrats to rely more on substantial work force rather than owning land.
The Sex-ratio played an even bigger role with the distinct social difference between the colonial families. In the South you had this high sex-ratio where woman were most likely to marry and marry young. Due to this high-sex ratio the typical patriarchal family system could not be maintained. This was mainly due to the fact that most families fell apart and a lot of children did not survive to maturity. So many women became widows, though they did not stay widows for long. So in the South, woman had more independence than the woman in New England. Women in the New England colonies were much more within the minority. You had a more relatively balanced sex ratio than the south. Also, on average, most parents saw their kids grow to maturity. With a balanced sex ratio ensuring everyone got married and the longer lifespan, a majority of New England families stayed intact, which meant the father-centered family system stayed in place. Meaning that the woman of New England did not get the same chance at some independence the woman in the South had. The longer life-span also meant that parents typically controlled the lives of their children for much longer time than the south.
With each colony distancing themselves from England and each other they all shaped their own distinct economical and social systems. Each region was able to form a distinct difference between each other and the mother country. Despite the many similarities they shared, they were all different, economically and socially speaking. You have the South who made profit through the Slave trade and their plantations. Then there are the middle and New England colonies making profit through trade as well as through farming, you also had New England who made use of technology. Then you have the social/family differences between the South and New England. One maintained the standard father-centered family, while the other failed to maintain that w
, while the other failed to maintain that which in turn led to more independence for the woman in that region. You also have a set of colonies who say the center for religion and spirituality is the home and family, while others are more focused on the community as a whole. Before the rise of the United States you have these sets of colonies that were anything but united.
