Would you let your kids take a 3 day hike unsupervised?

I'm watching stand by me right now and got to thinking about that. I know this movie is based in the 50s and my father had told me when he was a child this was actually the norm at the time (he was born in 1946). Would you let your children do this?
 
They lied to their parents in the movie...they all said they were staying at each others house.

But that's not the point i guess...haha. It would depend on their age i guess. 16 -18, it would depend on their maturity and their ability to take care of things in case of accident or emergency. Any lower than that, definitely not.
