Bruce lee was on top of the world with a chain of schools. All making money. and he had well trained instructors that he trusted to run them. He could have branched out and made millions, but at the height of his carreer he shut them down and stated "I don't believe in schools". How does this make sense to you? People suggest the he doesn't want people to be trapped in his style and that you should take what you like from each martial art, by how does this make sense if there are no schools. If you are Lee hater, then at least explain this without contradicting yourself. How can you judge him if you don't understand.
I'll end with this....bruce shut his school down because he couldn't get his point across to anyone and no one gets it still....
there too many people claiming to be open and honorable but the same people judge without taking the time to explore and understand
lastly "I agree with pugpaws, is sucking up, its not an answer"
people paid lee 1000 bux an hour in the 70's and the three top karate champions of their time were his students.....not a great teacher?
Ryan, bruce does not believe in schools, how can there be school that teach his 'style'
Jimmy - i think the difference is that i added something upon agreeing, i gave an answer where as most just say they agree with the most popular 'answerer'. However i think to affirm an answer is ok but theres to many people who don't know and are just following (im talking Y/A not martial arts but the mantra fits. you inspired me to ask quality question somehow, ill come back with some.
bj you should be
david yes that is true, maretable but rest assured, chuck norris mike stone and joe lewis trained with him for a reason, wally jay that tkd master, many top guys trained with him and learned from him for a reason (he learned from them as well). He didn't judge the martial arts as they stood. He judge them for total fighting and cleary they do not fit the bill. They all had weaknesses and he looked for something that didn't have a weakness (and found it).
What would tell bruce he isn't good at teaching, he had all the champs at the time, he had people paying 1000 bux an hour....how could anyone say he wasn't good at teaching?
ctc-he didn't say to learn different styles, he said style is wrong, there is no style, we are all humans, while you cling to your style there is a fight going on. mma fighters think they are in the right mind set to mix style, but thats the opposite of reall fighting. jkd was based on working with what you have to your own body, other styles are not like this, and if they are then its to use your own body according to the style only. martial artist 'should' evolve, but they can't because their styles are dead. any improvements a karateka makes upon his style or himself will be done from a karatekas point of view.
pugpaws2-I was under the impression our emails were a respectful conversation and had a resolution. I was unaware i sent unanswered emails.
My point was that to know bruce lee is to know krishnamuriti and vice versa. I was curious if you knew of him, not trying to teach you, I know better. By chain i meant three, and that there could easily have been more to come, obviously bruce didn't want that and anyone serious wouldn't but 3 schools would have been easy to keep from being watered down. I agree with what you say about how people tackle bruce's teaching. But its a misrepresentation of what hes saying, that they portray. I believe once you spend 10-20 years in say judo and you come to bjj you can't learn bjj fresh any more (or most won't) they will always attack it from a judo prospective. There learning will always be encumbered. Anyways to be honest we totally disagree, but i'm still listening and thx for your time.
thanx all...
garri....how can someone inferior feel correct in judging how is superior? i'll consider all answer and i only post to learn. teach while learning learn while teaching...
