Would you feel comfortable buying a new GM vehicle right now?

If GM were to go belly up, the value of their cars would plummet. Would you still feel confident in buying one of their vehicles right now? If the general answer is "no" here, this is all the more reason the government ( I meant Pelosi and Obama) should not hand them a wad of cash. They would be investing in a product with no consumer confidence.

No, I would buy an import.

They get better mileage, they are better-built, they cost less and they have better features.

American automakers still haven't learned how to build cars that get good mileage, that people want to buy.

And they want billions from the government so they can continue "business as usual."

Detroit hasn't learned since the first oil crisis more than 30 years ago how to build cars that people want to buy, that's why the imports became so popular.

And the unions didn't help either, they want their unskilled workers who just slap fenders on a car to make more than a highly-trained nurse.

The unions have just about priced their own members out of the market.

Detroit had years to prepare for this, and they shouldn't be rewarded for their own failure.

I wish someone would bail ME out!

I've never felt comfortable buying a union-made vehicle. That's why I prefer Nissan. They build a quality product and treat their employees very well, without having a union there to ruin things.

I wouldn't buy a GM vehicle anyway. I've worked for a couple of factories that made parts for them. Everyone knew that GM took anything. Their standards were very low. If a part wasn't good enough for other makes, we'd save it for GM. They pay so much for labor and benefits that they have to cut corners somewhere. They cut it in quality. I've worked in quality and knew the difference in the customer specs between GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan. You wouldn't believe some of the things that I've seen. For example, once they needed a white painted part and all they had were black (painted and clear coated). A quick trip to the hardware store and a spray and it was on the vehicle in a couple of hours. Now we all know that that paint wasn't going to stick on that clear coat for long....

Heck, the two times that I went to one of our local plants they had drunks on the assembly lines. No thanks. I wouldn't own one if it were free.
