I watched this documentary the other day about the Ande survivors. It reconstructed the events that happened and they had interviews of the survivors. I'd already heard of this crash, as it is the most famous survival story in history, but I never got the full facts.
For those that don't know what happened, a plane carrying a rugby team and their friends and family crashed in the Andes. Some died in the crash and some died in an avalanche and others survived for 72 days, when finally help arrived after 2 survivors did a 10 day trek through the Andes in very tough conditions. To survive, they had to eat the flesh of their dead friends. In the documentary theres a real photo taken at the time they died crashed (camera in a suitcase) and it showed a skeleton body of a human (they ate many of the dead bodies, not just 1)
It made me think whether or not I could actually eat the flesh of a dead friend that died only a few moments ago (the avalanche killed 8 within a few minutes).
So, if to survive you had to eat the flesh of your dead friend, or any human for that matter, would you? Or would you let yourself die?
PS: it is not cannibalism to eat dead flesh. Cannibalism is to kill someone and then eat it.
PPS: a catholic church told the survivors they did the right thing and it was not a sin.
