Would they search our car at the US border if we were leaving Canada for a long time?

My mom and I (my dad and 3 older bros are staying at home) are going on a road trip tomorrow from Canada down the US coast to California (Disneyland). We'll be gone a couple weeks. Would they likely check our car? We won't be taking a lot...just a couple luggage bags and maybe some food. If we told them at the border why we were crossing (which we obviously will when they ask) and how long we were going down would they search our car? Look through our bags? My mom and I have never been stopped before when we go across the border to shop in the states...But, I'm just wondering if it's something they have to do when people are going for a longer period of time. Thanks in advance! :D
