Would rooting an Android phone cause any problems when it comes to unlocking from it's network?

I want to root my HTC HERO today. But i can't go to the store to unlock it til tomorrow (cos the shops closed! lol). Would rooting it cause any sort of problems for the guy who's going to unlock it.
