...minor tax hike to top 1%? that would raise max tax bracket to 50% for those who make more than $1 million a year?..... Which would essentially go back to the tax rates of about 1981.

why would they oppose this exchange?
 
This would make very little difference, and misses the point. We cant pay our debts. If you add up the numbers, we already reasonably cannot pay, barring a 75% across the board reduction in government. Instead Obama doubled the size of the federal gov't. If we cannot pay, our dollar loses its value, and we will give away all of our countries profits as interest on our debt.

So this class issue thing is too little, too late, by a factor of 20.
 
Tax rates are not as important as spending cuts and controls on government. Raising tax rates does not necessarily equate to an increase in total taxes paid to the IRS.
We should have a law that says government cannot spend more than what is brought in, in tax revenues.
 
Why would we want to penalize people for working hard and making their fortunes?

How about no income tax, and only have sales tax?

Food can be exempt.

If a millionaire wants to by a 20 million dollar yacht, he can pay 3 million in taxes.

If I want to buy a 20 thousand dollar car, I can pay three thousand in taxes.

I'll have it because I will have an extra 600 dollars a month in my check!
 
First of all, you cannot give a tax cut to 99% of the people since more than 40% of all people do not pay income tax. Secondly, what rationale are you using to justify taxing someone at such a high rate? Must we insist on punishing the successful and rewarding those who do not even try? When you take the money away from those who grow the economy, you will have nothing left but the burden of the expense of govt jobs and a bunch of entitled people who are still not paying taxes. I would prefer everyone pay. A flat tax would be okay but the Fair Tax is the best plan out there.
 
yes i oppose any and all tax hikes, if you want to talk about fairness, how about we have no income tax, why do you want the machine to get larger, i want to pull out the plug
