Would passing anti-bonus laws go against "free market"?

I'm not in support of executives getting bonuses the way they've been getting from our tax dollars, but I keep hearing the "why didn't the Administration do something beforehand?" and I keep thinking about all those who cry and complain how Obama is creating Socialism and destroying free market.

So would legislation against bonuses be considered destroying the free market? Or did the Government do the right thing by going in on faith and hope that the Executives would do the right thing with the money?

I feel like one moment we're saying the new Administration is trying to destroy the free market, take over industries, and make Socialism...but then another moment we're crying out as to why the Government didn't pass Socialist laws to restrain these businesses when they receive stimulus.

congress, the president, and a strong minority of the supreme court
are against the "free market"

what's new?

that they are now aggressive in their legislation
and it is no longer as subtle as it once was

Depends on the wording.

Since most of these companies are traded on the stock market we can easily come up with a system that requires all bonuses and raises be voted on by the stockholders (owners of the companies)

Right now the system is set up that the CEO and other board members are allowed to give themselves raises, golden parachutes and unearned bonuses regardless of the companies profits. Pretty much a system designed to be exploited.

i agree you not supposed to mess with a free market but
when this market is getting govt funding....there must always be restrictions on how and on what they should do with this money

The minute govt handed over money it ceased being a free market. I don't agree that this free market business only works one way

Not in times when a corporation is receiving money form the government
.
It is the same as with the Auto industry
.
They got with the unions and renegotiated the contracts on all the options like Pay investments given to each employee
.
And the same should be for the people in charge
.
But then again they are better than the hourly worker
.,
Sorry I forgot that one
.
