This year is my studio's 10th year to be open. It is also my 10th year in dance. I've been dancing at the studio ever since it opened. Only four girls have done that: me, my sister, the owner's daughter, and another girl who now teaches there as well as dances.
I'm on our studio team (we only have one), which dances and twirls baton. I twirled baton for age 4-6 and the I quit. I started back up again last year, worked really hard, and made the team last May. I'm not trying to be full of myself, but I believe I'm just as good of a baton twirler as most of the girls on the team. I'm better at dancing than some of them.
However, my dance teacher (whom I am very close with) insists that I be in the back row on all our performances. We have the same rows, and the girls who have been dancing on the team the longest are on the front row. Those girls (most are the same age as me) often get special parts, extra routines, and other special treatment just because they have been on the team longer!
If this happened once or twice, I would be okay with it, but it happens for every performance we do! I've been dancing longer than many of the other girls, and I've been at the studio the longest. Just because I took a break from twirling the baton, I'm being punished for it.
I'm tired of being stuck in the back row and left out of the good parts of the dances. I don't even want to go to dance anymore, something I used to enjoy.
How would you feel if you were in my situation? What would you do?
