so i am flying out to Washington dc and i was wondering if i should even bother renting a car i decided to rent a convertible just to spoil myself and its only 58 dollars more... and the price isn't a big deal since i work for the company i would be renting for but i have heard from numerous people that it is a hassle to find parking and it is also just plain expensive and that public transportation is very good out there.. i am staying at my friends apartment so don't't know if they have a parking garage or if i have to park on the street. if i could get some help i would really appreciate it. i am staying from the 12th of july til the 20th. and how easy is the public transportation because my friend will be working and when she is i am going to be out doing whatever i can find.

I can't help but wonder why you're in here asking us about their public transportation situation, instead of asking your friend - who LIVES THERE. Why haven't you found out yet whether she has a parking space for you? You can't plan too much, you know what I mean? Find these things out asap, and you'll be better able to plan.

My experience has been that DC has fantastic public transportation. However, if you want to go further than the limits of their public transportation, why not rent the car only for the time that you'll actually be needing it, rather than keeping it for the whole 8 days? Most rental places don't necessarily require a reservation more than 24 hours in advance, so just take the car for a day or 2 as needed.

That plan gets my vote. DC in July ... yup, you'll be praying for central air conditioning in your friend's place - that's for sure. Hateful humidity ... make sure the rental has a/c, too.

Best of luck !!
