Would it be possible to start a new civilization?

Gather up architects, scientists, teachers, (and rich folk to fund it of course) to form your own civilization away from the world... How wonderful would that be! Do you think it's possible? If someone asked you to volunteer to help, would you help? And this is of course assuming he/ she is not a cult leader that ends up murdering everyone in the end... but more like captain Nemo from 20,000 leagues under the sea!
Sorry if it appears that my childhood dreams have got the better of me...
