Would it be possible to combine three fish tanks into one?

Here is my deal, followed by my goal. If you wish to respond, please read the whole thing...don't just answer something like "you are stupid" or "no".

Situation: I am designing a desk/fish tank as one. Don't worry about the specifics on that, but what I am concerned about is how to combine these three tanks: 55 Gallon tank (48" x 12.6" x 22"), 55 Gallon tank (48" x 12.6" x 22"), and a 10 gallon tank (20" x 10.25" x 11.75"). My general idea is that I want to place a 55 gallon tank on each size of the 10 gallon, and then make it so fishes can go from the 55 to the 10 to the other 55 (by just swimming through). I figure I could just remove the immediate sides of the 10 gallon and then use a bottom from another 10 gallon (same dimension) as the top of the first (and seal it correctly, I figure this may be done simply). My biggest issue is connecting the 55ers to the 10....is there a good way to cut the glass on the 55s to generally match the sideless sides of the 10 (for example, cut a smaller window to insure no leaks, and use tank sealer to finish it up)?

Any thoughts? Any ideas of the best way to do what I am trying to accomplish? If it is possible, even with some extra costs, it would be better than buying a brand new 120 gallon fish tank (don't find many of them on craigslist). Plus I don't like one of the 55 gallons, so if it is ruined as a test (like do one side of the 10 gallon before the other), I will still have one 55 gallon. :)
