Would it be OK to start off on a Ducati 848 EVO?

Hi all.

I am 15 turning 16 in september and I want to ride motorcycles before I start to drive cars. So I started doing research on starter bikes and I was originally looking at Honda's CBR250R, but then after looking at Ducati's 848 EVO, I fell in love with it, what can I say? It's a sexy Italian stallion! I want to do everything I can to get that bike as my first, though I don't know if it is certain, but I will try. I booked myself into a motorcycle safety course in October and hopefully I will save up $5000-$7000 for a good down payment for financing, and HOPEFULLY, a years worth of insurance. I really really really want this bike, so please offer me suggestions.

I know how to operate a clutch because of riding dirt bikes.

I know how to counter-steer and balance properly because of bicycles.

I ride for pleasure, not to impress people. Another guy said he wanted this bike to impress girls, a totally stupid reason for riding motorcycles.

Where I live it is completely LEGAL to start off on such a bike.

I don't mind getting a 250 or w/e to start on, I just thought it would be cooler to start off on this one.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Money is not a problem, so if I drop it (which I probably will but mistakes happen). I can replace the fairings no problem. And I will be put on my dad's insurance for liability coverage only! I'm trying to keep the costs down.

not a lot more to say... but

on the question of insurance.. I think the guesstimates of $4000 to $6000 are low..

insurance for a new rider on a sports bike... & that bike being a Ducati 848.. Im thinking the insurance is going to be more than the bikes cost.. so look at $15000 a year.

insurance companies are in business to make money.. the chance of you dropping the bike are more than 100%,, you could drop it 3 or 4 times in the first year & the cost of fixing the bike could run around the $3000 just for the fairings...4 X 3000.. 12,000 plus the companies profit... this is going to cost you a lot...

Then there's the cost of the riding gear... at least $1000..

& then there's the cost of maintenance on the bike.....


& JUST to finish off... knowing how to operate a clutch.. & riding bicycles does not a GP rider make.

If you finance the bike, which you say you will, then you will need full coverage insurance. Expect to pay around $6,000 for your first year's insurance. That is an idiotic waste of money, whether you can afford it or not. The reason you would be charged so much is because of the very high likelihood that you WILL drop it--or crash.
In case you are not aware of this, Ducatis are also extremely uncomfortable bikes to ride. Are you also planning on buying a Ferrari as your first car? This would also be a poor way to start off...
