Would it be difficult to terminate probation without a lawyer?

My friend has been presented the option to terminate his probation early. Is it possible for him to file a motion to early terminate on his own or will he need a lawyers help, how difficult would it be for him to do it on his own?

The simplest way is to ask the probation officer to do it. If the PO is not willing then it probably will not be granted anyway. If the PO refuses, he can file his own motion with the court. If you are asking if the friend has the right to make the motion on his own, the answer is yes. If you are asking if has the ability to do so, I have no idea.
