Would it be better to when riding a bike to carry my baby in a backpack (ergo)

or attached to a seat? I was thinking about this, at least if he is in the backpack and I jump off the bike, he doesn't go down with the bike. How safe are those baby carriers attached to the bike? I know he should be wearing a helmet too.
 
drive carefully and slower than usual and you won't have to worry too much. i'm pretty sure a backpack on the bike would be way more unsafe than any other option and your baby shouldn't be on the bike at all if he/she is too young to support themselves or fit within the weight limits of either a proper safety seat or one of those pull behind things.
 
Neither. Both of those things just seem to be begging for disaster. How about using a Burley (one of the pull behinds) & placing his infant seat in there? Thats what I would do.
