I think 30 or so minutes, 5 times a week of cardio is recommended.
Any exercise bike would be fine for this however you should try push yourself with it. I'm sure lots of people just sit on them at the lowest setting, barely working up a sweat or getting out of breath. For any real benefits the exercise you're doing should be quite moderate. Keep the resistance high, do intervals, whatever. Just make sure you're actually trying.
