Would a bicycle be a good way for me to ride to town?

The town is about 8 miles away and I dont have a license. I want to get me a job but I cant drive a car by myself yet. Would riding a bicycle be a good way for me to ride to town? The highways have shoulders to the right and left. Are bicycles supposed to ride on the shoulders of highways?
 
I'm glad your trying to go green by riding bikes, but on the side of the highway that's too dangerous. Plus it's 8 miles, that's a little far for this hot weather. You'll be all sweaty and nasty once you get to your job and your boss might say something about you coming to work all nasty.

Just try to find a different way to work or stop until you have a car. It's just too dangerous riding the bike on the side of the highway.
 
you dont tell us what town you are so we cant tell you much
you say highway but again you dont say much
as some highway/freeways prohibited bicycles on them
but other do but since you didn't say we cant really help you because
you didn't say where you are
also there might be public transit but again since you didn't say
we cant help you much sorry!@
