I'm planning on swapping the 1ZZ-FE stock engine in my 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder with the 2ZZ-GE engine that are used in both Celica GTS and Lotus Elise. I also want to swap out the low-geared 5-speed manual that came with my car for a 6-speed. Would the transmission from a Lotus Elise also work in my car?
I know the Elise is also a rear-engined car and I figured using the same engine might help, but the engine sits sideways in the MR2... don't know about the Elise. Also don't know if there might be any other hookups.
Does anyone who has upgraded their stock 5-speed for a 6-speed manual have any advice, or other transmission recommendations that might help?
