Would 18 inch rims for a minivan be okay for the ride?

I'm looking to add some snazy 18 inch rims to my 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette .
I already know that 18's can go on the car but what I would like to know is

Would the size of these tires start causing problems mechanically wise ?
Low profile tires, do they really make a rough ride ?
Other than the price of rims and tires would their be anything else that I would have to do before I put on the 18's ?

Quit at life. No mini van should EVER have the privelidge to ride on rims and low profile tires. Your wasting your money
